Shampoo bar soaps are manufactured using the traditional saponification method of fats and oils mixed with lye. The products possess an alkaline pH value. Performing a so-called "acid rinse" after using the shampoo bar soaps is advised. An "acid rinse" is a weak solution of water and either vinegar or citric acid mixed together. The no-rinse solution smooths the hair cuticle, promotes hair manageability and counteracts the formation of "lime soap" leaving the hair feeling cleaners, softer and shinier.
